Back Aboard!

We are finally back on Mer Sea!! We flew up to Baltimore from Atlanta on September 1, and rented a car to get us to the marina where she had been waiting for us for these three long months. We checked her out, and found the work we’d had done to be satisfactory. We’ve now moved her to Anchorage Marina (the scene of the mishap in May), which is more accessible to most of Baltimore, and where Mother Goose has his fleet.

It’s great to be back aboard!! We found Mer Sea FILTHY (the fault of soot in the air from industry near the “haul-out” marina), and spent the majority of our first day just cleaning every inch of her exterior. We spent another day polishing the stainless outside and vacuuming and dusting inside. This sounds like lots of work, but it’s very satisfying, and we take a lot of pride in keeping Mer Sea “bristol.”

I’m happy to be able to say that my heel is giving me no particular trouble, and it IS getting a workout! Whether it’s moving all around the boat, or getting stuff out of all the awkward places aboard, or taking a lengthy walk in Baltimore, or bending and stooping and squatting to clean, the foot’s holding up fine. The only message I’m getting, and this is from my whole body, is just how out of shape I am!! I expect that to change pretty quickly if we keep up this pace!

We’re making arrangements and visiting with friends and family, and plan to stay here at Anchorage for a week or two, using it as a home base to do some cruising and visiting. Then we’ll cast off and check out the Chesapeake, meet up with my parents and an old family friend off the Chester River late in the month, and then see what comes next. Stay tuned for updates!!
